A F*L*U*I*D P*A*S*T
Eline Meyer’s work is shaped by three fictional characters: Lotta Sweetliv, Robert Nini, and Lee Nini. This allows her to tell stories from multiple angles and emotional perspectives. By weaving in elements of science fiction, she creates narratives that move freely through time and space, introducing the idea of a fluid, changeable past.
Lee and Lotta are childhood friends who are suddenly separated at the age of five. They eventually reconnect through a portal that allows them to send each other letters, drawings, paintings, embroideries, and animations. The blanket that Lotta ultimately makes for Lee and sends back to his sixth birthday marks a pivotal moment. He remembers their warm bond and finds the strength to face the sadness and confusion that lies ahead.
The blanket, as a symbol of comfort and connection, unexpectedly softened something in the way Eline experienced her own past. Sending the blanket on to her loved ones became a natural next step. Each of them could then choose a new destination, allowing it to roam beyond boundaries, like an ongoing echo of soothing presence.
Translating this concept into a film and installation has now become the foundation for her ongoing research.
